Inkstuds Book

So I am in the process of putting together the Inkstuds book that will be published by the fine folks at Conundrum. I was wondering if you guys would rather see the book be full of interviews or a little less interviews, making way for more artwork that relates to the discussion. Whats your preference of balance?

Regardless, the book will be really great. There are some great folks that have been confirmed. I can’t wait to have everything confirmed so I can spill more beans.

It’d be great if you’d do a similar format for each interview with a nice mix of (not too long) interviews and art. More wordy than a coffee table book but long enough to cover some interesting points. 5-700 wds per plus a good choice of art. if some of the art was whole pages or sections instead of single frames then that’d be great too.

Glad you’re doing this and looking forward to the final outcome.
    Cheers

I’d love to see lots of art, I think the interviews are amazing but in the past a lot of comic book non fiction books could have benefited by being filled with art.I’ll be first in line either way.

Depends – if it’s some overlooked Canadian cartoonist than yes, I want to see art. If it’s somebody like Seth , it’s not so important. I think it would be great if there’s art by the artists mentioned by your interviewees as inspirations, etc., so we can compare with their own work.

Would love to see each interview illustrated by a portrait drawn by the interviewee.

But doesn’t Conundrum have a marketing team who would be helping you make this decision? I’m sure it would have an impact on price, size of the book, etc.

I’d say mostly interviews and only a little art — after all, these cartoonists have comics that people can read on sale elsewhere!

Squally, the influence part is where i most want to pull art from. Stuff needs to refer directly with the content.

I like the idea of longer interviews, less art. As Mark says, you can buy the art elsewhere. Perhaps you could do a limited bibliography of the artists’ works after the interviews?

I like the limited biography idea.

I say, interviews and a little bit of art. As I go to the Inkstuds website, I come for the interviews, that should be te main focus. Of course there should be a little bit of space to see what the hell the artist is talking about, their art. I would really like to see a book from this, I think it’s a great idea, good luck with it!

  9. Roger Stewart Says:

I agree with what looks like the emerging consensus. A little art to provide context, especially for the less-familiar artists, would be great–but mostly people will want the interviews. When transcribed to print, interviews benefit greatly by editing.

I completely agree that the book should focus on the interviews and less on the art. I can find the art anywhere, but I can’t always find good, in-depth interviews that I can carry with me wherever I go…
